SEC transfer agent rule overhaul

On 1 September 2026 the SEC proposed its first overhaul of transfer agent rules since the 1970s, allowing blockchains to serve as the official record of securities ownership for the roughly 273 registered transfer agents. The comment period runs 60 days from Federal Register publication.
