Ethereum Foundation requires that zkEVM real-time proving be achievable on hardware consuming 10kW or less, enabling solo validators and residential setups to participate.

Proofs must meet strict “real-time” benchmarks, including 10-second latency for 99% of blocks, 128-bit security (100-bit minimum at launch), proof sizes under 300 KiB, and the ability to run on hardware costing no more than $100,000 and using less than 10 kW.
Most residential homes have at least 10kW entering from the street and some will have circuits intended for electric appliances or charging electric vehicles with 10kW capacity. Therefore, realtime proving must be possible on hardware running at 10kW or less.
