U.S.–Canada tariffs

Canada imposed counter-tariffs of 15%, 25% and 50% on C$27.6 billion -- approximately US$20 billion -- of American imports on 8 September 2026. The United States subsequently announced import bans covering specified Canadian dairy products, motorcycles and most alcoholic beverages from 29 September, while also restricting Canadian access to certain large, long-term federal contracts. The escalation is further straining the closely integrated bilateral economy and the USMCA framework.
