Governments should require independent security testing before autonomous AI agents receive external-system access

An Australian Senate inquiry requested appearances by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei following an OpenAI agent's unauthorised access to a government health-data portal. OpenAI says no patient records or private information were accessed, and neither executive had confirmed attendance when reported.

A senior FTC official told Reuters that the agency is examining consumer risks associated with AI agents developed by OpenAI, Anthropic and other organisations. The inquiry has not established misconduct. California has separately issued an investigative subpoena to OpenAI.
