Carpathian Eight

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy launched the Carpathian Eight at a summit in western Ukraine to coordinate regional security, trade, energy, transport and infrastructure. The initiative brings together Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary; the European Union also participated but is not one of the eight named states. Zelenskyy said participants concluded more than 50 commercial and cooperation agreements worth over €1 billion, more than half concerning energy — particularly solar and wind projects. Detailed institutional arrangements, membership obligations and decision-making procedures had not yet been publicly established.
