Pakistani forces and Afghan Taliban personnel exchanged fire for several hours along the Kurram border on 17 October. Anonymous Pakistani officials linked the fighting to an alleged militant infiltration attempt and claimed unspecified casualties. Afghanistan's government had not immediately commented.
