Proposed UN maritime mission for the Strait of Hormuz

France is preparing a UN Security Council resolution proposing an international mission to restore and protect commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The envisaged mission would be non-offensive and separate maritime security from the wider U.S.-Iran conflict, but no draft has been circulated or authorised. Previous initiatives encountered Chinese and Russian opposition.
