Chinese President Xi Jinping was scheduled to visit Washington on 24 September 2026 for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, including a state dinner at the White House. Expected discussions included extending the U.S.-China tariff truce, Chinese rare-earth supplies, artificial-intelligence governance, fentanyl precursors, and renewed Chinese purchases of American energy and agricultural products. As of publication, negotiations were continuing and no agreement on tariffs, AI, rare earths or energy trade had been concluded.
