Closure of the UN political mission in Somalia

The United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia ended operations on 31 October after transferring its political, governance and reconciliation functions to Somali institutions and other UN bodies. The closure concludes more than three decades of UN political missions but does not end humanitarian programmes or other international security operations.
