Purge of China's military leadership in 2026
China expelled Central Military Commission members Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from the Communist Party and military over alleged corruption, disloyalty and factional activity. Their removal leaves only Xi Jinping and one other active official on the formerly seven-member commission. The allegations have been announced by Chinese authorities but not tested through transparent judicial proceedings. On 29 October the Communist Party confirmed the expulsion of 33 civilian and military officials and promoted Zhang Shengmin to the Politburo.
