US–China trade negotiations should remain separate from decisions concerning Taiwan's defence

Taiwan's defence minister said Washington had reassured Taipei that US policy had not changed following the Trump–Xi summit and that arms-sale discussions were continuing. The delayed package, reportedly worth approximately $14 billion, had not been approved.
