The Philippine military reported tracking 101 Chinese navy and coast guard vessels around contested South China Sea features in September 2026, an increase from 56 vessels recorded in August 2026.

The overlapping territorial and maritime claims in the South China Sea, principally between China and Southeast Asian states including the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia, encompassing disputed islands, reefs and shoals, and the naval, coastguard and diplomatic confrontations arising from them.
