Proposed AfD talks on restoring Russian gas imports

AfD co-leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla were reportedly preparing to meet Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev in 2027 to discuss restoring Russian gas supplies to Germany. Possible locations and additional participants remained under consideration, and the discussions reportedly depended on progress towards a Russia–Ukraine peace settlement. As of publication no meeting had occurred and no agreement to restore Russian gas supplies had been confirmed. The AfD supports lifting restrictions on Russian energy and argues that cheaper gas would improve Germany's industrial competitiveness; the proposed talks conflict with the European Union's policy of ending Russian fossil-fuel imports and raise questions about unofficial diplomacy, renewed energy dependence and Russian influence over German politics.
