Taxpayers should not bear ICE’s unrecoverable losses from detention projects launched without adequate planning

A federal watchdog report released September 24, 2026, found that Immigration and Customs Enforcement's detention expansion since January 2025 lacked planning and produced millions in waste. DHS agreed that ICE will develop a comprehensive strategic plan, but expects completion by August 31, 2027.
