Federal noncitizen voting ban

U.S. District Judge David S. Leibowitz dismissed on October 1, 2026, the federal criminal case against Chelsea Cox, holding the statute barring noncitizens from voting in federal elections unconstitutional. The Justice Department appealed, while the judge said Florida prosecutors could pursue Cox under state law.
