Vitalik Buterin introduced a set of proposals in April 2025 that advocate replacing Ethereum’s EVM with the RISC-V instruction set and advancing zkVMs and privacy-enhancing features to boost long-term scalability and user anonymity.

Vitalik Buterin now holds a dedicated research role within the Ethereum Foundation following the April 2025 leadership transition, allowing him to focus on long-term innovations such as zkVMs, privacy protocols, and execution layer redesigns.
