Gorbagana is a community-driven fork of the Solana blockchain conceived by crypto lawyer Gabriel Shapiro and first deployed on 20 June 2025 by the pseudonymous developer MidTermDev.
Developers switched on the first Gorbagana testnet less than 24 hours after Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko’s decentralisation tweet on 18 June 2025.
Gorbagana was born from a public dispute between crypto lawyer Gabriel Shapiro and Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko about whether trademark control undermines blockchain decentralisation.
