Turkey's largest city, straddling the Bosphorus strait where Europe meets Asia. Once Byzantium and then Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, it is layered with monuments — the domed Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, and the labyrinthine Grand Bazaar.
