Monemvasia

Fortified town built on a great sea-girt rock off the southeastern Peloponnese in Greece, tethered to the mainland by a single causeway. Concealed on the rock's seaward flank, its Byzantine and Venetian old town of stone houses and churches earned it the name 'the Gibraltar of the East.'
