Lucerne

City on the lake of the same name in central Switzerland, ringed by mountains. Its emblem is the Chapel Bridge, a covered wooden footbridge of the 14th century — among the oldest in Europe — hung with painted panels; nearby, the Lion Monument is carved into a cliff face.
