Córdoba
City on the Guadalquivir in Andalusia, southern Spain, and capital of a Western Islamic caliphate that made it one of 10th-century Europe's largest and most learned cities. Its great Mezquita — a forest of horseshoe arches later set with a cathedral — and old Jewish quarter survive from that age.
