Description
Kaposi sarcoma is a cancer that can form in the skin, lymph nodes, or other organs. It is caused by a virus called human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8). Kaposi sarcoma is more common in people with weakened immune systems, such as people with HIV/AIDS. It can also occur in organ transplant recipients and people taking certain immunosuppressive drugs. Kaposi sarcoma usually appears as purple or red patches on the skin, but it can also cause lumps in the lymph nodes, lungs, or other organs.
