God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater

In this novel by Kurt Vonnegut, the eccentric millionaire Eliot Rosewater abandons high society to dispense love and money to the down-and-out of small-town Indiana through his family foundation. As a scheming lawyer plots to have him declared insane and seize the fortune, Vonnegut skewers wealth, philanthropy, and the value America places on a human being.
